Tensile Loads
A tension joint, as illustrated below, sees loads that try to pull the joint apart. The forces on the joint and
the bolts are approximately parallel to the axes of the bolts. All tensile forces try to stretch and/or separate the joint. The tension load, no matter how small, will add to the stress in the bolt and/or partially relieve
the joint.
